Q) My feet are not sore, but my knees and sciatic nerve hurt. Could it be my feet?
A) If you have a biomechanical foot alignment problem, your weight-bearing joints will compensate (i.e. ankles, knees, hips, lower back, upper back, neck). Orthotics can help to alleviate and in most cases eliminate these problems.
Q) Do I have to wear big, clunky shoes in order to accommodate orthotics?
A) At Kensington Foot Orthotics, we offer a selection of custom-made orthotics which can easily fit into a wide variety of footwear. It isn’t even necessary to increase your shoe size to accommodate the orthotic, as is the case with many other custom-made devices.
Q) Do I have to wear my orthotics all the time?
A) If you aren’t wearing your orthotics, then you aren’t receiving the benefits from them that your feet specifically require. Since foot or alignment problems are biomechanical in nature, you want to wear your custom devices all the time in order to properly control the problem(s).
Q) My problems only bother me when I play sports. Should I just wear orthotics when I do those types of activities?
A) You want to concentrate on correcting your feet during all daily living activities, not only during sports. In order to prevent additional ailments from developing, your foot alignment problems must be attended to on an on-going basis. If you only wear your orthotics when involved in sports, then your custom-made devices never get the chance to become totally effective. Your body will never be allowed the necessary time to adjust to the new foot alignment. You will be out of alignment again the moment you remove the orthotics from your sports shoes.
